Hi people, Taking into account the trend of browsers automatically upgrading users to newer versions, rapid-release cycles, and a lack of a clear picture about what browsers Pootle supports, we are revisiting this topic in order to make a decision.
On the one hand, it's impossible for us the major parties behind Pootle's development to support every single browser version in the planet. On the other hand, we don't want to leave a fair amount of users behind, so we have gathered browser usage metrics from some of our servers and have analyzed it. So considering both perspectives, we are leaning towards supporting the latest N + N-1 version of the major desktop browsers at the time of the next release. Since Internet Explorer is a whole different world with its own unique release pace, we are hesitant if we should drop support for IE 8 or not. In case of supporting IE 8, we are thinking about a "limited" support; ie, users will be able to contribute but without any bells and whistles. The move would allow us to cleanup code and to move to newer versions of some libraries we use. This would have effects on the current development branch, and consequently on the next stable version too. Any feedback on the topic would be appreciated. Thanks! Julen. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ How ServiceNow helps IT people transform IT departments: 1.
