Ooops!
Roger, you're absolutely right. In my haste I had calculated the date from
December 21, 2000 which was the date of release by the FCC, not the date of
publication in the Federal Register (which you correctly identified as
January 24, 2001).
I have to say that I agree with your final comments. It will be interesting
to see how closely the timetable is adhered to!
There's a very informative summary on this whole process on the TIA website,
written by Scott Roleson. You can find it here:

Subject: RE: FCC Part 68 registration
Hello Ben,
I wonder where June 19 comes from?
The Report and Order in CC Docket No. 99-216, which was published in the
Federal Register on January 24, 2001 says that "No later than 180 days after
publication of the Order in the Federal Register, the Commission shall cease
accepting applications for registration of Part 68 equipment and transfer
responsibility for establishing and maintaining the database of approved
equipment to the Administrative Council."
January 24 plus 180 days means July 23. According to what I've heard, it
doesn't seem likely that the FCC will rush this process.

David
Form 730 is still on the FCCs website. Have a look at:
http://www.fcc.gov/Forms/Form730/730.pdf
As far as the FCC ceasing to accept Part 68 registration applications is
concerned, no firm date had been fixed. The broad timetable of events is
summarised in the following document which indicates that this should take
place no later than June 19:
http://www.fcc.gov/Daily_Releases/Daily_Business/2001/db0131/da010234.doc
Once the FCC cease accepting applications you will have a choice:
[1] Apply to a TCB for certification
[2] Follow the new Supplier's Declaration of Conformity (SDoC) route
ANSI accredited North American TCBs can be found at:
http://web.ansi.org/public/ca/ansi_cp.html
European based TCBs can be found at:

Subject: FCC Part 68 registration
I understand that the FCC will stop issuing Part 68 Equipment Registration
Certificates. As of what date? I looked on the website and form 730 is no
longer there. Who are the TCBs that are supposed to take over this
procedure?
Best regards,
David
