Reply to: RE>>IEC 801-2 test gear Dave,
Here is my insight on building an ESD test site. Look for the gun that has the voltage and discharge type you want. This is likely 16kV and contact discharge. I avoid battery systems because the battery charge depletes just when you least expect. Then to continue the test you plug in the charger and wonder if the gun's output waveform is still good. Typically only the guns and the gun ground strap are commercially available. The larger less expensive pieces are your challenge, because Keytec make's little money selling 8X8' sheets of aluminum to EMC engineers. Finding the ground plane, table, Horizontal Coupling Plane (HCP), and the VCP with associated bleeder resistors and cables is more important to your test than what brand gun is used. Most people design the accessories themselves, only to have a fragile arrangement. Craftmanship, workspace planning, battery charging, and procedures is the part which requires care. Sheet aluminum is available from your local steel company, found in the yellow pages. They will even Heliarc weld two sheets of 4x8" aluminum together for you. Transportation is up to you however. Buying the gun is the easy part. The rest is the fun part, granted you have the time. I wish you well with your new ESD lab. CDI is the cheapest but remember, cheapest. Schaffner NSG 410 (not sure of model number) is a nice ESD gun. I believe that the CDI runs in the 5k to 7k range and the others at about 10k. These are guesses. Hope that at least gets you started. I could do with some in-house IEC 801-2 test gear. Does anyone know what's involved? Can anyone give me some advice, instructions, part lists, equipment manufacturers names etc. thanks in advance JohnP David Spalding Motorola ISG 20 Cabot Boulevard M2-250 Mansfield, MA 02048-1193 Phone: (508) 261-4742 FAX: (508) 339-2346 EMail: [email protected] ------------------ MIME Information follows ------------------ ------ =_NextPart_000_01BBA94B.E36C7D80 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <<<<<< See above "Message Body" >>>>>> ------ =_NextPart_000_01BBA94B.E36C7D80 Content-Type: application/ms-tnef Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 <<<<<< See Enclosure named "application" >>>>>> ------ =_NextPart_000_01BBA94B.E36C7D80-- ------------------ RFC822 Header Follows ------------------ Received: by Mac2.net.com with SMTP;23 Sep 1996 10:20:09 -0800 Received: from europe.std.com by unet.net.com (SMI-8.6/SMI-SVR4) id KAA19156; Mon, 23 Sep 1996 10:13:21 -0700 Received: by europe.std.com (8.7.5/BZS-8-1.0) id MAA09713; Mon, 23 Sep 1996 12:42:03 -0400 (EDT) X-Authentication-Warning: europe.std.com: daemon set sender to treg-approval using -f Received: from world.std.com by europe.std.com (8.7.5/BZS-8-1.0) id MAA09691; Mon, 23 Sep 1996 12:41:58 -0400 (EDT) Received: from motgate2.mot.com by world.std.com (5.65c/Spike-2.0) id AA24233; Mon, 23 Sep 1996 12:38:24 -0400 Received: from pobox.mot.com (pobox.mot.com [129.188.137.100]) by motgate2.mot.com (8.7.3/8.6.10/MOT-3.8) with ESMTP id QAA21186 for <[email protected]>; Mon, 23 Sep 1996 16:34:28 GMT Received: from prospero.dma.isg.mot.com (prospero.dma.isg.mot.com [150.20.1.20]) by pobox.mot.com (8.7.3/8.6.10/MOT-3.8) with ESMTP id LAA05567 for <[email protected]>; Mon, 23 Sep 1996 11:38:06 -0500 (CDT) Received: from cclip.dma.isg.mot.com (cclip.dma.isg.mot.com [150.20.221.28]) by prospero.dma.isg.mot.com (8.7.5/8.6.12) with SMTP id MAA05336 for <[email protected]>; Mon, 23 Sep 1996 12:38:00 -0400 (EDT) Received: by cclip.dma.isg.mot.com with Microsoft Mail id <[email protected]>; Mon, 23 Sep 1996 12:36:47 -0400 Message-Id: <[email protected]> From: Dave Spalding <[email protected]> To: "'[email protected]'" <[email protected]> Subject: RE: IEC 801-2 test gear List-Post: [email protected] Date: Mon, 23 Sep 1996 12:36:43 -0400 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="---- =_NextPart_000_01BBA94B.E36C7D80" Sender: [email protected] Precedence: bulk Reply-To: [email protected]
