Reply to: RE>FAR on FCC class B Cynthia, someone must be joking with you. It is my understanding that a FAR is the Federal Air Regulations written by the FAA, not FCC. Second, the FAR defines Class B as an Airspace above large airports such as SFO (San Francisco), LAX (Los Angles), DFW (it is in Texas), and other similar places such as Chicago.
However, in reference to an EMI/EMC issue under CFR Title 47, you might wish to look at at Part 2, section 2.807 (d). This provides and exemption to devices used by the U.S. Government or any agency thereof. This covers those items that fall under Part 15, and a lot or other Parts. Happy reading, John Shinn, P.E. Probably with another obvious question that will get you laughing on a Thrusday morning. Has anyone heard of a FAR from the US government that requires all office equipment to be compliant to class B of FCC part 15 for the product to be sold to the US government? Is there a WEB site I can download the FAR from and understand it? My understanding of part 15 has always been that B is applicable to the home and office environements with the translation of office being on someone's desk. IE if the product is in the buildings wiring closet that class B was non applicable. My concern is that we have products that are never going to be on someone's desk or at their home, but will always be in a wiring closet. Some of these products meet class B and some class A. Our federal office is stating that this FAR requires all products to be class B. As you can imagine, redesigning a group of products to meet B is time consuming and costly and I wish to ensure that it is required before we go any further. Thanks for any insight you may have on this issue.
