I am also most interested to hear some details of this FAR. It has been my understanding from past experience from a previous lifetime that the GAO required only NRTL Listing and compliance to FCC Parts 2 and 15 for the product category. There was no mention of a FAR. BTW, what does FAR mean? > My understanding of part 15 has always been that B is applicable to the home and > office environements with the translation of office being on someone's desk. IE if the > product is in the buildings wiring closet that class B was non applicable. According to FCC Part 15 Section 15.3, "(h) Class A digital device - A digital device that is marketed for use in commercial, industrial or business environment, exclusive of a device which is marketed for use by the general public or is intended to be used in the home." "(i) Class B digital device - A digital device that is marketed for use in a residential environment notwithstanding use in commercial, business and industrial environments." It is clear that Class B is intended for residential environments and Class A is not. However, Class B products may be used in a Class A environment, but not visa-versa. It make no sense to me to delineate Class A/B when a piece of equipment is behind an EMC transparent door and closet which happens to be immediately next to a desk. Comments? > Our federal office is stating that this FAR requires all products to be class B. This sounds like the perfect bureaucracy with the classic right hand - left hand situation. Actually, inquire further with the federal office. They may be making an unjustifiably and possibly unknowingly blanket decision. Anyway, see if the federal office will supply a copy of this FAR. They are referencing it, so they should likely have a copy or may know where to get one. Of course, remember that nothing is unreasonable when is comes to government. Let me know how you resolve this issue as I am most interested. Please note that my comments posted here are my own. Best regards, Ron Pickard [email protected]
