As of Jan. 1, 1997, the EMC Framework goes into effect in Australia. This is similar to the CE process in the EU. The product must comply with the emissions standard AS3548, and a "C-tick" mark applied, and a Declaration of Conformity issued. Only a company resident and registered to do business in Australia can apply the mark and issue the Declaration. The company first has to notify SMA (Spectrum Management Agency) of intent to market products and which of four marking options will be used. The C-tick mark is copyright to SMA and cannot be used without written permission. Also, it seems that the Declaration must state a serial number or lot number, so a Declaration must be issued for every unit or production lot.
All details are available from the SMA web page: www.sma.gov.au Currently there are no immunity requireements for ITE, but immunity is covered by the Framework, and can be imposed on products at the discretion of the SMA. In the telecom area, where Austel makes the rules, there are no RFI immunity requirements at this time, and I don't know of any planned in the next year.
