Digi developed and released an analog modem for
sale in North America. Product Management is considering
kicking off a project to take the product world wide.
My experience with analog is limited to the North American
requirements. I am aware of what is going on in Europe
with TBR21 and have read past messages on analog.
I gather that analog approval is country by country,
very time consuming, and expensive.
What I am tasked with doing at the moment is writing
a recommendation to management on how Digi
could approach analog approvals. The biggest
problem is I do not have the key information I need
to make a recommendation. Things like cost
for approval, time to approval, etc. Also what
would a consultant bring to the table. Should I
farm the entire process to an approval agency,
should I attempt to gain the approvals on my own?
As you can see I need lots of help (of course people
that know me well could have told you that !!)
I don't expect that anyone out there can hand me
a complete analog approval guidebook with all
this information, but what I was hoping is that
anyone that has faced this situation could
share their experience with me. What are
really the most important factors for a company
to consider when approaching this type of task?,
etc.
My boss does not expect me to hand him a list
of every country in the world and what their
approval process is, but he does expect a
recommendation for how I intent to get this
feat accomplished. All advice is welcome!!
A few facts you may need,
1) homologation is staffed currently with only 2 people
2) engineers are responsible for the design and normally
support all approval testing
3) Digi has distributors in most countries and we utilize
them often for ISDN approvals so they are available
to me as a resource
