Eric,

Last year, I had a similar question. I went back into TREG archives
and searched under "record tone." This is available on the net at URL
   http://www.rcic.com/
The RCIC archives referred me to FCC Form 730, page A3, Registration
Code RC (Conversation Recorders).

Form 730 says,
"RC - Conversation recorders. FCC Order in Docket No. 20940
permits use of beep tones or consent of all parties when
conversations are recorded. Bepp tone characteristics:

  Pulse width: 0.2 sec +/- 20%
  frequency: 1400 Hz +/- 10%
  rep rate: 12-15 secs
level: average speech (-9dBm averaged over 3 seconds)

>From FCC Docket No. 6786, 1/15/46."

I hope this helps.

Pete
