Santa Clara Product Safety Technical Committee (PSTC), January 27&
February 24, 1998 Meeting Notices

Please mark you calendar and join us for the following meetings:

List-Post: [email protected]
Date: January 27, 1998
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Topic: "Organization" of safeguards against electric shock
Speaker: Mr. Rich Nute
Location: Hewlett Packard, 19447 Prunridge Ave. Cupertino CA, Bldg. 48,
Oakroom

PRESENTATION:

Rich will be talking about an "organization" of safeguards against
electric
shock. We all know about grounding and double-insulation and similar
schemes. I will show that there are three primary schemes for
protection
against electric shock. Two of the three primary schemes need no
mitigators,
while one has six mitigators. Rich will discuss the primary schemes and
their
mitigators in some detail. Rich is not presenting anything new,
technically.
Rather, he is presenting an organization -- a way of thinking -- about
the
necessary constructions that provide protection against electric shock.

SPEAKER:

Mr. Nute is a graduate of Cal Poly (San Luis Obsipo). He has worked as
a
manufacturing engineer, a component engineer, a R&D engineer, and most
of his career as a product safety engineer for T&M, IT, and some medical

equipment. He has sat on numerous safety and standards committees and
have contributed to various safety standards. Rich writes the
"Technically
Speaking" column in the Product Safety Newsletter, and help manage the
IEEE EMC-PSTC listserver. He is currently studying ignition of plastic
material
by electric energy. If there is interest, he could talk about this,
too.

DINNER:

If you are interested in joining the speaker for dinner at El Torito's
(by Vallco
Fashion Park at Wolfe and Hwy 280), it will be at 5:30 p.m. RSVP to
Kamran
Mohajer.
