Dear Treggers,

Bill Lyons recent issue of FAQ Sources had a section (1.10) dealing with
the Australian requirements. The following helps to understand the current
requirements. Bill will be adding this to the April issue.

The current situation in Australia is evolving.

1. AUSTEL PERMITTED PRODUCTS

TS100 expires on the 30th June, 1998, hence Austel permits will no
longer
be valid after that date. Those permitted products will then need to
comply with the ACA Regime Labelling Notice No. 2, which includes a
requirement for Test Reports to current standards. This may be eased as a
transitional provision.

2. AGENTS

Agents holding permits for Austel permitted products are able to operate
until 30 June 1998.

About November 1997, ACA advised individual Agents acting for overseas
manufacturers that they should no longer use the Supplier Codes previously
issued to them.

Labelling Notice No. 2, with effect from 1 January, 1998, included a
clarification that Agents could act for manufacturers and importers.
However, there are legal complications and overseas manufacturers would be
advised to consult with their Agents or seek advice. The regulations
current reference to manufacturers relates to goods manufactured in
Australia.
