The question of what constitutes 'buildings or sections of buildings used for that purpose' in the exemption is also interesting. Obviously, a CO is exempt. What of an equip- ment room rented by the utility? What of a 'gimme' PBX = room, where the building janitor sometimes stores his mop? = What of wiring closets that don't take too much effort to = get into? You also have a secondary exemption in C22.1 Section 60, = and I assume in article 800 of the NEC as well, exempting = some equipment from inspection. When tied in to the = requirement that equipment under the jurisdiction of an = inspection department must be approved, you have a = definitional quagmire. However, common sense would dictate that no engineer, = whether or not he works for a 'utility' would want to be in a position where he would have to testify equipment for which he was responsible didn't meet essential safety requirements because it didn't have to.
