Egypt would prefer British telecom approved equipment according to information I
got  from the Egyptian authorities(phone company) 2 years ago. With the creation

of  CTR21 this would mean that the British approvals are now based on a Pan-
European standard. There is no information on how this would be viewed. My
own opinion based on conversations I had are that the preference for British
approval is based on the background Egypt had with the UK. The phone system
has vestiges of the British system. I do know that one employee of mine
gave his uncle in Cairo a cordless phone that was FCC Part 68 and Industry
Canada CS03 approved(this was the non-harmonized standard) and it worked ok.
I would expect when a phone is set to pulse dialing there would be a problem if
the North American make/break ratios were used.
