Hi Treg world, Hi Victor

Dongle

In recent usage, sometimes used to refer to an intermediate assembly such as an
interface adapter between a modem and the line cord or an add-on to match
cricuit A to circuit B etc.

or

The original definition was: A computer security device such as a logic circuit
that could be connected to the machine (i.e. via a printer port) which, when
interrogated, returns a unique logic code. The device looks transparrent in
normal use. Software using a dongle will look for its presence. Being a black
box, few people try to make copies thus protecting the software from multi
party use.

I was once told that the name originates from the inventor who had a name
something like Don Gell but do not know if this is fairy tale land. There is a
USA spelling sometimes used Dongel!
