I would love to see wifi just as much as the next guy, but it seems like that technology may use too much power for todays small devices. Even Enfora, who was supposed to be coming out with a wifi sled has so far failed to bring it to market despite significant interest. And that sled basically includes a big battery that doubles the size and weight of the phone at least. Besides cellular networks are far more ubiquitous than wifi hotspots, so for now if I had to choose only one method of data connectivity, I'd go with the 3G mobile stuff like EVDO or HSDPA - the former of which is already being deployed, the latter of which should start deployment in the next 3 to 6 months.

I think that is a huge mistake. Not having Wifi makes the phone incomplete - and using the other technologies instead comes at a cost of more peripherlas or a more expensive phone plan. For my money, it was the four times better screen res and the much faster processor and the ability to transfer at EDGE speeds. But there's also the better keyboard, bluetooth, and better camera (although the camera is the same res as the 650, just better exposure and color). Its of course a personal decision and future Treos will be better. Whether wifi will be a feature any time soon is a big question mark. We may just see EVDO and HSDPA Treos before we see wifi ones... --------------------- Sent with ChatterEmail True push email for the Treo Smartphone www.chatteremail.com <http://www.chatteremail.com/> -----Original Message----- From: Train they call the City of New Orleans <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Friday, Sep 2, 2005 10:21 am Subject: Re: [Treo] Would you upgrade to a Treo 650 now? when will the 670 and the 700 come out - any news? I'm wondering if it's not worth it to just wait - especially if it has to be an unlocked version. I have a Treo 300 and a Treo 600 and I don't see a compelling enough reason to junk my investment there for Bluetooth and a better camera. For what I need - making phone calls, playing and streaming MP3s, putzing around with SSH/VNC/FTP, SMS, occasional email, time-wasting games (for waiting in line), and occasional notetaking and reminders. One thing that would have swayed me was wifi access and the ability to play and stream good quality video. I realize you can do this now somewhat, but from what I've seen, the quality leaves a lot to be desired. I would like to see what killer-app features the new phones have in store.
