Definite time for nostalgia. The Pilot 1000 was one of those
technologies that took me completely by surprise. I'd had Sharp and HP
products before, and had burned quite a lot of time on them, even going
so far as to have a programmer friend of mine write synchronization
software to sync the Sharp with my mainframe-based calendar and address
book. Along comes the Pilot and it just does what it needs to do,
quickly and well, with no worry about losing stuff (except for some
incredibly dumb things done by the Intellisync product of that era)
'cause it was all in two places. I never will forget the plight of a
friend of mine who had just finished entering 400 names and phone
numbers into a little pre-Pilot PDA that had no sync capability. He
carried it around in his back pocket and sat on it wrong one day. The
screen cracked in half diagonally so he could see the name and PART of
each phone number he'd entered. He'd thrown away his rolodex, so he
lost dozens if not hundreds of numbers.

He bought a Pilot too! He's actually the one that called me and told me
to get one, way back in 1996. A fateful birthday present!

Primitive by today's standards, certainly. I wonder what we'll think of
the Treo 700p in 10 years from now. Isn't it interesting, though, how
much the calendar in that picture looks like what my 700p's calendar
(and the blackberry calendar as well, these days) looks like? Simple,
and it just works!

Now, where's my Linux-based supercharged Treo IX?? I decided that Treo
Dagger is too strong a name. Treo IX carries the progression of numbers
(180, 270, 300, 600, 650, 680, 700, 750, IX) with a new feel and a nod
to Linux. Good choice??

Come on Treo IX!!!

Cheers,

Don
