Don,
I use the Javo Edge cable and connnect my
lap to the internet via the Palm when I'm
not at home. In fact, I only use the Javo
Edge at all times, since it has a hot sync
function and is retractable..simple all the way
around.
Slow service isn't a problem on my 700P with
EVDO..it's very quick.
I have high speed at home, of course, and know
how much slower you can get (650).
I barely notice the difference between my high
speed and Treo 700p pushing it.
Sprint charges $15 (I think that's correct...no more)
for my power vision service.
I don't use their text (why type when I can talk:).

Hi Dianna,

Interesting perspective! I'm finding similar circumstances. It does
always depend on where you are and where you go. The 755p may have a
better cellular radio than the 700p, which appears to have a better one
than the 650. That's the kind of thing they don't publish in the
specs!!

You reminded me of one thing: the first Sprint advanced tech support
guy I talked to cautioned me that using Bluetooth to connect my laptop
to the Treo for further connection to the internet is MUCH slower than
using a cable. Does anyone have any stats/experience that bear this
out? I carry the retractable Seidio Hotsync/charge cable, but haven't
tried PAM (Phone as Modem) over the cable. Not sure even how to do
that, unless I buy PDANet, which I'm not sure I want to buy. With
Verizon, the VZ Access Manager could manage a cable connection. Does
Sprint provide something similar?

FYI, I haven't even opened the box on the 755 beyond what was necessary
to get the Treo and battery out. Still testing, but pretty fully
functional since hosted Exchange provides Versamail with email, contacts
and calendar, so I can use the 755p in parallel with the 700p without
having to have both "installed"

Cheers,
Don

We spend a lot of time in the middle of nowhere in the summer...
and have a lot of visitors at times.
Sprint is the only guaranteed service.
Everyone asks to borrow my phone..they can't get coverage..
t-mobile....Verizon, Cingular...etc
I surf with my 700p via pdanet whenever I want, inside or
out of the house.

Yeah, you could have knocked me over with a feather! Who knew? Now,
I'm not saying Sprint has better coverage than Verizon everywhere, but
in and around where I live and work (northwest of Denver), so far
Sprint's coverage seems to be better. This is particularly true inside
my house, where the most I ever get is two to three bars (usually
bouncing between those two), and Sprint has a full strength signal.
According to the coverage maps (and we'll just have to see), in a small
town in Vermont where my daughter spends several weeks each summer there
is a big hold in Verizon's coverage that Sprint covers with "Additional
voice coverage area" which, I'm told, means that if one has a newer
phone (last 2-3 years) one gets coverage. Verizon - nothing.

Funny old world, eh?

Who knew?

Cheers,
Don
