Almost every rechargeable battery I've ever bought came with
instructions to charge it first. I also don't have a separate battery
charger, and though I could have turned off the phone (probably the
greatest battery hog), I didn't -- and mine's working just fine. Had it
in Miami over a long weekend and got two full days of emailing and
telephoning and still had some battery left on the third day -- though
not enough I was willing to leave home without charging it.
