Heard about this some time ago but never tested it. This wild. The kids can 
heard it from any level 1% to 100%. My wife can hear too (10 years younger). I 
can only hear it next to my ear at 100% and it is a brain splitting whine that 
I can feel too.  The and all the neighbor kids and young adults can hear it a 
few houses away.

 No, I didn't actually hear anything, but my ears now ache.  Must be one
 of those ring tones I've heard the kids use for use in school -
 allegedly it's so high pitched that the average teacher can't hear it.

 Humans tend to lose frequency response in hearing as we get older. It's
 more pronounced in the upper frequencies.
