BackupBuddy for Windows does a complete backup of your SD card from your PC during HotSync, and there are a few apps out there that can warn you instantly when the SD isn't detected by the OS anymore, thus alerting you that the SD may have fallen from the slot (of course, the Treo 680 does not have this problem, since it has a SD slot "door").
