Larry,

1. Obviously a case that covers the slot would help.

2. Use Cardkeeper (a freeware) app that warns you when the card ejects from the 
unit

3. Launching apps from the card typically means that a certain portion of your 
files/apps/data is not backed up to a PC. Make sure you are backing up your 
memory card periodically to your PC/thumbdrive or other media (in case you do 
lose it).
