It's been so long since I used Versamail, I can't really say why (or if) Snapper's any better. I'm just comfortable with it; it does all that I need it to.
I don't as a rule jump into discussions about email applications, mainly because Chatter users are so full of enthusiasm for that product and, on paper at least, it sounds superior to Snapper. But Chatter was designed for IMAP and Snapper started off as a POP3 vehicle; I think that for those of us that don't use IMAP, Snapper may be the better choice. I've been using Snapper since it was introduced in late 2002 (I bought an introductory license with lifetime upgrades) and I think I paid around $25. I'm not sure if I'd pay $50 for it now. Once every couple of months its dbs become corrupt on my device and I have to restore from backup; I'm used to that now...it's no longer that big of a deal (it used to happen much more often on my 650). I've never liked its design for moving emails to the card: it leaves the header information in RAM (or NVFS) and moves everything else to the card. If the header information is lost (and not backed up) and the emails are no longer on the server, the emails can't be recovered; I understand that Chatter moves everything to the card and avoids this. Consequently, I've never used the mail-to-card function in Snapper; luckily, there's enough available RAM in my 680 so that I don't need it. There are some annoyances having to do with alert sounds that I've just learned to work around. New versions aren't produced very often anymore, although there is supposed to be a new version in beta now.
