The combination of Versamail on the Centro and a hosted Exchange account
appears to me to offer everything that the Blackberry does for a
"regular person" at a significantly lower price.

If email is a great importance to you go with the blackberry!  I have
both a Treo 680  and I am currently using my BB 8700g I just got tired
of issues with email on my Treo.
