Some Linux distros come with jpilot, some don't. It's easy to find on the net
(jpilot.org). All distros come with pilot-link, the conduit software that
jpilot requires.
That said, using jpilot is definitely more difficult to get used to using on
Linux than Palm Desktop on Windows. And it's less feature-rich than the Palm
Desktop. However, one feature of jpilot is that it recognizes Datebk5/6
floats. If you don't use Datebk5/6 this would irrelevant, of course.
I'm pretty sure I've heard people getting VMWare to allow the Palm Desktop to
sync with their devices. That'll put you out $189.
I have many different Linux distros installed at any given time, and I'd say
that your transition from Windows to Linux, especially given that you'd like
to try out jpilot, might be easier with Kubuntu (www.kubuntu.org).
