You do need the latest patch. I too gave up on the native palm sync and switched to Chapura and it was money **very** well spent.
With Chapura I still hit snags but there's always a clear way to work through them - Pocket Mirror will stick the problem item into an Outlook folder and let you work out what to do with it. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
