As Craig suggested, beaming is actually a decent solution. I wound up 
doing that when I went from the 650 to the 700 as I'd just reformatted 
the hard drive on my laptop (bad timing).

You could use this as an opportunity to try RescoBackup (just install 
from the web or your card since you can't sync). Resco will allow you to 
restore only your PIM data.

Definitely restore your few apps from scratch. You wouldn't believe the 
remnants that come with them when you try to restore to a new device!
