We keep whining because we have (it would seem) experienced a tragedy that you have somehow avoided so far - and that is to have some kind of catastrophic failure and have to hard reset when we are nowhere near being able to usb into a pc!
I experienced this the first time when my plane touched down in Atlanta and I turned on my Treo 650 and had it go into a spontaneous reboot loop. My computer was at home. I wasn't traveling with a laptop. I had the usual 3 hour layover in Atlanta. If I hadn't have been able to do a restore from sd, not only would the time in Atlanta been painful, but I would have been without for the next 3 days. We all know restoring is easier from USB and a pc. The point is, when you need it, you are never near a pc, and we just don't have the faith that the Pre will never experience an unexpected reset, or have issues so severe it requires a hard reset. Sure, it's not as convenient, but it's way faster. Plus, > I bet there'll be a way to restore your stuff EXCEPT your big media > files (which are rarely crucial). >
