XP Mode is turning out to be pretty neat.  (Haven't really needed it
though yet).  
 
I run a lot of apps on my business work machine, most all the vendors
support Win7 x64 just fine.
 
I have Win7 Pro on my laptop as well, no driver issues.  Dell has
already updated a lot of their drivers to support it.  
 
Windows 7 is making Vista seem more and more like Windows ME a second
time around.

That`s particularly useful/significant since XP 64 bit suffered greatly 
from a lack of drivers.

Avoid XP-64 like the plague UNLESS you want to run software that has 
been specifically written for it (including necessary drivers).
