so i finally decided to try this. couldn't get it to play on mPlayer
for Windows, Media Player Classic, Media Player, Real Player, VLC,
Winamp 2,09 and Quicktime. Nothing. Even when changing the extension
to .wav. Even tried on a Mac.

but it DID work on Media Player on my 700wx. Without renaming. Go figure.

When you open the file the header looks something like this:

RIFF ??? QLCMfmt ?????????? Qcelp 13K

reading through the QCP wiki - it seems that this means that it uses
the RIFF format for storage (similar to AIFF) but uses the Qualcomm
PureVoice (Qcelp) 13k bit rate codec.

there seem to be a bunch of programs that will play the file, but I
didn't want to install any of them. However, as that forum link
suggested, media-convert.com will convert them successfully to mp3
files. I tried one and it worked.
