wel, it didn't make the essentials unusable, except Splash ID, which I still 
have running on the desktop. What annoys me is I got it when it was free, so 
I'm wondering if the problem was intentional.

Yeah, it's just that part about having to re-do the process every time 
Palm updates my Pre, especially if it happens without my permission, and 
makes the thing unusable til I get it cleaned up. That happens in the 
middle of a work day and I'm apt to pitch it hard enough it'll land in 
Mountain View.
