Thanks for the reply. The only reason I was looking at WiFi at work was
PocketMirror will only synchronize through WiFi or some kind of Bluetooth
something or other.

I will look closer for the WiFi at work. I hear what you are saying about
personal stuff going through the corporate network. If my Pre supported the one
feature (forget what it is called) I could get it to synch directly with
Exchange. Don't know when (or if) they will be providing that update.

I can't speak to your syncing issues as I've not had any problems, either
with Google or my company's Exchange server. I have a Sprint Pre, though.
What I can tell you is that your wifi at work is most assuredly "locked
down" because to not do so would be irresponsible. Most networks simply
lock down with encryption (WEP, WPA, etc.) for which you need a code (or
"key"). You should be able to get that from your company's IT staff.
However, some places don't broadcast their SSID (basically it means you
can't find them with a normal check for what wifi networks are available)
and so you have to know what the SSID is - something else available from
your IT staff - if they will tell you, I suppose some company's won't
support it. The other thing I would caution you is that it might not be the
wisest thing to use your company's wifi unless you don't get adequate
reception for data in the office. The reason is that if you use your
company's wifi, everything you do on your phone is potentially available to
your company and IT staff - at least as far as transaction over the
Internet. Anything you do that might not be appropriate for work could be
going through your company's network via that wifi connection, and thus
possibly putting you in jeopardy. At the very least you're going to have to
be cautious and treat your Pre as a company phone/internet device while at
work.

Oh, regarding the battery, yes, my Pre will rarely last for more than 12 or
so hours, unless I turn data off entirely. That can save you but of course
disables most of what the phone can do. Supposedly using wifi can help,
especially if your phone doesn't get great data reception. But this isn't
anything very different from other smartphones I've had over the last 5 or 6
years. I don't think that I've ever intentionally not charged my phone
overnight in that period. You can of course get larger batteries for the
phone, but most of them add bulk and come with replacement covers. Whenever
I buy a phone I immediately get an extra charger for work and one for the
car, that way I am set for keeping the thing near 100% most of the time. It
might seem like overkill, but there are definitely some things that will get
the battery to go down very fast (streaming video, 3d games, or just being
in an area where the reception is very poor for a relatively short period).
It's not the Pre, it's the overall technology. Few phones really excel in
this area, and none of them are smartphones!
