It's interesting that no one has a basic plan. Probably that's why AT&T
feels comfortable changing their rates, and you know that won't favor
the customer.
But the repeated questions about fees, etc. got me wondering, so
here's my bill:
Note: the Everything Data plan includes "Any Mobile, Any Time" and
unlimited SMS/MMS
New Charges
Shared Plan
Everything Data - 1500 Shared Anytime Minutes Included $129.99
Employee Discount Sprint 23% -$29.90
Line 1 (mine, included)
Line 2 (wife's, also included)
Everything Data - 1500 Shared Anytime Minutes Included $0.00
Line 3 (daughter)
Everything Data - 1500 Shared Anytime Minutes Included $19.99
Employee Discount Sprint 23% -$4.60
1 Sprint 411 Directory Asst. @ $1.79/call $1.79
Sprint Surcharges
Federal-Univ Serv Assess Non-LD $2.41
Pennsylvania State-Gross Receipts Recovery $4.57
Administrative Charge $2.97
Regulatory Charge $1.20
--------------
$11.15
Government Fees & Taxes $8.55
Pennsylvania State-911 Tax $3.00
Pennsylvania State-Sales Tax $5.55
--------------
$8.55
I know it's not the "basic" $69 plan, but it does give something to
compare to. For instance, Pa tax is 6%, so chop about $2.75 off for the
$69 plan. Most of the fees are fixed, so no savings there, but if you
could tell which ones are percentages, just cut them in half, as well.
I'd bet if you WAG'd all the fees and taxes on the basic plan at 2/3 of
what I've listed here, yiou'd be close.
That employee discount is valuable. Be sure to ask about
eligibility. AT&T, which I had the best part of 10 years, offered me
absolutely nothing to stay with them, and actually, had I bought a phone
from them, were perfectly willing to require me to upgrade my data
service sufficient that they got back their "rebate" in 10 months of a
24 month contract.
Sprint, of course, is climbing out of a bad reputation. At some
point, they'll be doing away with all the good deals. But may as well
use them while they exist.
The employee discount eligibility is long, but not all-inclusive. Ask
for it when you're at the Spring store.
