When Verizon, or Sprint or AT&T, charges you, they're not charging for what your phone processed. They couldn't care less whether your phone processed anything -- what they care about it what went through their system to get to your phone. When you use WiFi, that's not Verizon. That's your cable company, or Barnes and Noble, or MacDonald's. Unless they're charging for the service - and most of those that do don't charge by the Mb, but by the hour - there probably isn't much in the way of throughput info for your phone.
