My "crap" rating of the Pre's hardware (note I didn't say Pre Plus) is based
on the high return rates (many times a typical phone, based on 3rd party
reports) as well as on personal experience. My Pre, which I babied,
developed a crack in the front glass (from corner of USB port), lost its USB
port cover, and was all loosey-goosey around the slider. My sister's Pre
also developed a crack and the battery wouldn't charge after a week. Her
first replacement (new, not a refurb) had the loose battery problem and the
keyboard started dropping out letters. Her 2nd replacement again developed
a screen crack and had a wobbly screen. And the screens scratched very
easily. And Wi-Fi reception wasn't very good (compared to, say, my Logitech
Squeezebox controller, which is about the same size but has much better
Wi-Fi range). And lest we not forget the inadequate amount of RAM the Pre
had (evidenced by how much better an otherwise identical Pre Plus runs).

Sorry...for a company's premier, game-changing phone, the Pre was marred
with poor engineering and bad design choices. Had webOS not been as good as
it was, Palm would've been bankrupt and left for dead by the end of 2009.
And I say that as a longtime Palm fan and Pre user...I still hope they
thrive under HP.
