Rich text mail is readable by most (if not all) modern mail clients, including text based ones like mutt.
If you sent this in rich text, then I must disagree; your message was completely indistinguishable from what you were quoting (it was not preceeded by any quote character).
Weird. Mutt shows it preceeded with one or more greater-than (>) quote symbols. Although the text/enriched and text/plain do differ slightly in layout, they both have the quotes.
What mailer do you use?
This email (as well as the one with all the fancy colors and formats) read perfectly well, including multi-level quoting. Mail.app on Mac OS X 10.2.8. I am glad, however, that this discussion has finally found legs and is continuing. I can't wait to see what the weekend brings!
