I too get disk errors when booting:
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem).
Journalled Block Device driver loaded
kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
Freeing unused kernel memory: 156k freed

but things seem to work fine after the initial boot. I have not run the deep test with smarttools yet.
Am I a disaster waiting to happen?

Is there any way to do disk diagnostics in linux? It seems that the disk is checked during install and I should be able to do whatever the installer does from the command line.
Thanks, Mike
