I don't know if i understood you right, but...
I understood that you can't ping the localhost from another machine, right?
Nothing wrong here, that's how it is suposed to be.
Every machine has its own localhost (127.0.0.1) so its a forbidden address to use
outside the machine. It is used, e.g., to reference the machine services from the
machine itself (altough, most of the times, you can use the eth address too), or to
check if the TCP/IP stack is working fine.
So if you can ping your eth address from another machine, your driver is working fine.
In fact, if you dont load the driver, you will see that your localhost is still up and
running, because it has nothing to do with your eth driver.
