The solution I use for youtube atm. is IceCat4 from the PPA. It can handle
html5, which youtube is offering right now. Some videos don't work with it,
then it falls back to FlashVideoReplacer. If that one fails it falls back to
Gnash (this is usually the case when youtube stuff is embedded somewhere
else). Works like a charm!
