IBM ThinkPads use Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) technology in order  
to control what kind of wifi adapters you can use. You will not be able to  
boot your thinkpad if it does not include a qualifying card and subsequent  
firmware (which is proprietary, AFAIK).

Therefore, your only option really is to buy a USB wifi adapter from  
libre.thinkpenguin.com
