The users of Ubuntu are the ones doing the expressing. Reporters and others are making statements that are in this case largely true about people moving to Linux Mint from Ubuntu. It has mainly been the result of Unity. Though there have been other issues which are also involved.
I have talked to Clem personally about various financial aspects a number of
time and he has always been very adamant about keeping a distance from
corporate interests. Yes- they want to see the user base grow. Everybody
wants to see that. Unfortunately reporters, bloggers, and people like
yourself make up sensationalist statements like this. Nothing the project has
done backs up your assumptions. If there going to take market share they want
to take it from Microsoft/Apple. Ubuntu is more like icing on the cake.
