What i meant was, because they're not a free distro they're open source
movement. I was not referring to how they label themselves (regarding this
they use both terms, see for instance here
http://www.debian.org/News/2013/20130809 "Since then the project has grown to
be one of the largest and most influential open source projects"). But
labels/words
are of the utmost importance for the free software movement and they're one
of the main criteria when i choose free software.
