If LXDM really was a problem, then it solved with Trisquel 7 that uses LightDM.

To actually discover the problem, you need to take a look at the resource (CPU, RAM, network) usage when the system is slow. However, like everyone else here, I am pretty sure you run out of RAM when viewing heavy Web pages. Your system then uses the hard disk as a complement. Accesses to the hard disk are something like 100 times slower than accesses to the RAM.

To sum up, and if your motherboard supports it, buy more RAM. 2 GB cost very little nowadays...
