I have the same problem, both on my main desktop running Trisquel 7 (with a  
NVIDIA GTX 560 Ti) and on my office computer (an old Sony Vaio  
desktop/monitor all-in-one machine) running Trisquel 7 Mini. Everything is  
just sluggish. I don't have Compiz, though.
