Unfortunately nouveau does get regressions which can cause these types of bugs. When I upgraded to 3.13 in Toutatis I had to disable video acceleration in VLC to stop getting kernel panics upon watching videos. It's possible that your issue might be fixed in future versions, if it is not already fixed. The version of nouveau used in Ubuntu 14.04 is probably considered "old" by kernel developer standards! Anyway, it's good that you got your problem fixed. Otherwise I might have suggested upgrading to a newer kernel using jxself's repository. Andrew
