The point is that the developer of proprietary software is the only person who knows what's going on when the program gets executed, hence he has control over your computer. When a few company have total control over the technology of millions and millions of people, and if those people manage their whole lives with it, then we're in some serious trouble.

And you can't messure freedom by the number of choices you have or the number of things you can do. Somebody can give you choices but demands control over your life in return - that's what proprietary software does. I don't agree with stallman's view on freedom completely but on that one, i agree with him.
