Anyway, you can edit the menu using the "Main menu" utility (available from the "Activities" or from the "System Parameters"). Just remove the duplicate launchers (as far as I can see, one of them always is the "Other" category). You can remove some entries or just hide them.
I do not think they are the called actually are the same. They are not on my
system. For instance, "Onboard" launches the virtual keyboard, whereas
"Onboard Settings" launches its setting window.
