Having a major game as free software is a near impossible task due to the mentality of publishers (they don't want their code "stolen" for their 100 million dollar budget) and the integration of 3rd party tools and libraries. Your game may want to be free, but then if you use a non-free engine (Unity or Unreal) or physics (like Havok), you cannot make the game free software. Oh and there is the mentality that there will be rampant cheating online and copycat versions that will confuse customers if the source was there.
Humble Bundles sometimes have DRM free games, but the games themselves are
considered non-free. Same goes for GOG.com that has DRM free versions of
Steam games.
