Installing Trisquel is fairly easy, actually it is very really straightforward, but I am aware that "easy" is a relative concept and that we all have talent for something and anti-talent for many other things, so.. let's say "fairly easy". If you have a PC with more than 2 gb of RAM download the 64 bit full ISO and burn a DVD with it.
If you have 2 gb of RAM burn a DVD with the 32 bit ISO.
If you have 1 gb of RAM burn a DVD with the Trisquel Mini 32 bit ISO.
Then, restart your computer with the Trisquel DVD and if it does not show you the Trisquel menu restart it again and on the very first seconds of the booting process press repeatedly "del", "canc" or one of the F* keys -"F2" usually AFAIK- in order to enter BIOS and set there in the boot order to boot first from CD. When you finally eventually enter the menu select "Install Trisquel" and follow instructions. As long as your English is decent and you understand the language and know how to point and click you shall have no issue at all.

As far as security, any decent GNU/linux distro is I would say still 10 times more secure than any Windows installation (with or without EMET, antivirus, antispyware, antirootkit, anti*place here whatever*) so you just install Trisquel and just make sure to never install any proprietary malware (basically and potentially, any piece of proprietary software) and you are golden.
