If you install from the repositories, you will be fine, unless some nasty  
thing is introduced by the developers into a package or the GPG keys are  
changed by a malicious program and you end up downloading (and verifying)  
packages from some dubious source. That's why I like centralised  
repositories: they have the benefits of an 'app store' without the  
restrictions such as those by Apple or Microsoft.
