I read the whole thread of your debate. Congratulations for hanging in there for what is right.

What I don't get is why a GRUB password can't be off by default? How does that lead to a user being able to log in straight as root without a password??? I don't know about you, but I do not have a GRUB password, but I do have a user password. If someone other than me boots my system, they don't have to put in a GRUB password, they are taken directly to the lightdm display manager to log in with a user password.

I'm sure I'm missing something, please explain.
