If you want to finish the job, it's pretty easy to pop on jxself's linux-libre kernel:

https://jxself.org/linux-libre/

which is what I did for my "freed Ubuntu" VM.

Either that VM or Debian works for me if I need/want bleeding edge. However, I would never have learned how to free mainstream distros if I had not had this community to learn from and bounce ideas off of. I will always be grateful to Ruben for this, just as I will always be grateful to John Roberts for creating Damn Small Linux and the friendly community that gave me the self confidence to get rid of winblows in '04-'05ish.

It took me many years to realize just how rare and wonderful that gift was, and I'm sure it will take me just as long to fully appreciate Ruben and the Trisquel community.

From where I sit, the simple tutorial on installing Firefox-ESR or Firefox-current to one's /opt directory that I posted in the "updates" thread looks a lot more newbie-friendly than all the steps involved in freeing Ubuntu or Debian, but I'm kind of retiring from outreach right now and of course ever new user's needs and interests are different.

Trisquel 7 is fine for my own uses so I'm not going anywhere. If Ruben is too busy to maintain the project, I'll probably buy him a cup of coffee every month for the rest of his life, as I do John.

That's probably more than anyone really wanted to know. ;)

Peace out,

~me
